Daily Duties at St. Barnabas Hospital :

See attached resume for details on responsibilities and full description with budget amounts for each capital construction project. In addition to capital construction projects in the millions, I was given the responsibility to direct the hospital's in-house Engineering Department, Union staff and in-house construction. During my tenure as AVP, I completed a successful JACHO review for the hospital, maintaining its accreditation, while overseeing construction in an active level one trauma center that could not close down for renovation or new construction. Once you have managed construction projects in a hospital or active healthcare facility, it is then you can boast that you have earned your experience in the field. I was responsible for people's lives on a daily basis and took my responsibilities to patients and staff very seriously.

What they like about St. Barnabas Hospital :

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.

Climbers who worked at St. Barnabas Hospital had these interests:

Books
Canterbury Tales I am an English major and find Middle English literature outstanding. This is still one of my favorite reads.
Reptile Care Books/ Dog TrianingTechniques/ Ferret Manuals and Websiites I am an avid herpetologist and have 16 reptiles of my own. Since I was young, I have loved snakes and lizards and am fully educated and have taught classes in reptile husbandry. I belong to several herpetological associations.
The Dictionary Everyday, I open the book and learn a new word to make it my own. A must have in everyone's library.
Various Alternate Dispute Resolution Books There are a million books on arbitration and mediation, but with legal skills and experience, most of it comes down to "listening" and determining the chronology of the facts in a case. Especially in Construction where the fault might lie on all parties.
Specifications and Plans The design team must read and coordinate the specifications and plans prior to issuing for bid. Imagine all the avoided change orders? Coordination is my main focus in construction management. READ AND COORDINATE!
Magazines
Architectural Digest Wonderful creativity meets construct-ability. Something architects tend to forget. This magazine allows your imagination to run free in the fields of architecture, MEP, construction, maintenance and budget. If it were only true in reality!
