Daily Duties at U.S. Air Force:

I was hired as the Program Superintendent as a result of a promotion as an active duty member of the U.S. Air Force. I managed activities of four subordinate managers and their 130 personnel, three Production Facilities, and 34 Storage Facilities. I was responsible for the management the production, assembly, and delivery of state-of-the-art smart munitions systems. The three Production Facilities were: 1. Programmable and Conventional bomb assembly and maintenance – this operation required assembly line production to build a weapon to meet military mission requirements as would be seen in any factory; each station had a different function and quality control procedure requiring just-in time delivery of assets and clean-up precision to prevent delays in production or bottleneck due to empty container build-up. 2. Missile assembly and maintenance – this operation required assembly line production to build a missile weapon systems to meet military mission requirements as would be seen in any factory; each station had a different function and quality control procedure requiring just-in time delivery of assets and clean-up precision to prevent delays in production or bottleneck due to empty container build-up. 3. Small Arms assembly and maintenance – this operation required assembly line production to build a small arms weapons (20 & 30 millimeter and 50 caliber gun systems, chaff & flare counter measure systems to protect pilots) to meet military mission requirements as would be seen in any factory; each station had a different function and quality control procedure requiring just-in time delivery of assets and clean-up precision to prevent delays in production or bottleneck due to empty container build-up. The storage facilities housed the components to build weapons systems to meet military mission requirements. I was responsible for accurate inventory controls, inspection and disposal of hazardous material, supply chain cradle to grave operations (identifying requirements, placing orders for replacement or redistribution of components, receiving or shipping, proper storage), and warehouse and space management. In addition, I managed munitions delivery section that delivered daily mission requirements to 55 aircraft locations and validate expenditures reported to remove assets from inventory. Daily • review and approve production reports from the previous day • compile operational records, such as time and production records, inventory data, repair and maintenance statistics, and test results • review safety and incident reports (the reports identified safety violations or incidents that identify trends where resources such as retraining or additional support personnel may be needed or reassigned) • host a production meeting to discuss any changes to the schedule and ensure that there were enough components to build the mission requirements • met with different military planners to discuss upcoming mission requirements and to provide feedback as to whether we had enough components to build the requirement or when we will have components to meet request. Weekly • prepared a weekly activity report (WAR) for senior military staff (a WAR contains personnel reports, production and delivery results, inventory reports, storage activity, quality assessments, statistics and trend analysis from identified Key Performance Indicators, safety assessments, a self-assessment on how we met mission requirements/expectations, mention any military meetings or inspections and the outcome of the visit) • met with military unit staff to discuss any performance issues and other issues that may impact mission requirements Monthly • reviewed facility maintenance actions utilizing Integrated Maintenance Delivery System (similar to SAP and MAXIMO software systems); responsible for 178,000 square feet of storage facilities • prepared monthly reports on expenses and funds utilization to maintain costs within specified budget • conducted stockpile audits to validate accountability and warehouse practices • prepared and approved monthly projected production schedule In addition, I was required to: • write and/or approve Standard Operating Procedures from each of the functional work areas

What they like about U.S. Air Force:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
