Daily Duties at Conrad, Eastern Virginia Medical School:

1. Provide leadership in management and supervision of studies directed towards development of anti-viral products by evaluating scientific proposal and budget, protocol design, tracking progress, site visit, identifying and solving experimental problems, analyzing reports and writing study reviews. 2. Independently handle preclinical development of potential microbicide products against HIV and other STD pathogens using state of the art in vitro assays, in vivo animal models and PK-PD analyses through a network of investigators in several countries. 3. Actively manage new development, improvement and validation of nonhuman primate and small animal models for genital transmission of HIV. Also, investigate mechanisms of enhanced transmission of HIV by co-infection with other STD pathogens. 4. Organize and conduct subcontract proposals review meetings and prepare summary statements. Also, communicate with awardee institutions to resolve issues, obtain additional information, or to suggest budget modification. 5. Review subcontract proposals, write review reports, and assist investigators in clarifying experimental protocols to emphasize feasibility, priority and progress in the areas of microbicide development. 6. Identify areas of research priority; create and maintain active communication with potential investigators; participate in active solicitation; and evaluate formal and informal new grant proposals. 7. Attend to and/or present research findings at national and international meetings; and keep abreast of current literature related to HIV and other virus research and development. 8. Review HIV/AIDS-related grant proposals for NIH study sections, and also review manuscripts for several biomedical journals.
