Daily Duties at World Projects International:

In the summer of 2009 I was transferred to Lake Charles, LA to co-lead a major packing operation and customs document creation for a large shipment bound for the northern port of Moskalvo. In Louisiana, my official responsibilities included managing a packing crew of more than 30 laborers and foremen responsible for securing 12 modules and 36 40' shipping containers of bulk steel and loose pipe spools for shipment. This included managing the transfer of material from fabricator to packers, cataloging material, ensuring job safety and making sure that the customs documents accurately reflected the packing scheme in the field. My daily activities included morning meetings with logistics managers, fabricators and safety personnel. At the meetings we would inform the others of our progress, highlight issues and concerns and request additional help where necessary. Additionally, I would run daily safety meetings with the packing foreman and write Job Safety Analysis before unauthorized work began. During the day, I would liaison between the field, our data collection team and the client's material coordinators to match the material being delivered with the material being release in the systems. Eventually it became clear that the client's materials management systems were not reliable and our scope of work changed. At this point, we needed to identify each piece of material by hand and develop the packing lists in house. Because of this, my role included making sure that the packing lists developed in the field matched the customs documents and could be crossed referenced with the client's master materials list.

What they like about World Projects International:

You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
