Daily Duties at World Projects International:

As the Customs Clearance Manager my official responsibilities were to manage a team of 4 Russian nationals who worked directly with a Russian customs broker to clear material through the port of Korsakov. On the other side, I was to coordinate with Fluor logistics managers, Bertling freight forwards and Exxon Mobil projects managers to ensure that the material was correctly prioritized and cleared in a timely manner. My day-to-day activities included morning conference calls with the Houston offices of the stakeholders mentioned above. Here I would walk them through the daily report, which was distributed across the project. I would update them of our progress, receive any special prioritization or direction necessary and request additional documentation necessary to clear troublesome shipments. Next, I would work with my team to prioritize the clearance of a determined set of shipments. In addition, I would respond to a roughly 50 emails I would receive each morning from various people on the project either requesting the status of particular shipments or providing me with the documentation I needed for individual shipments. With my downtime, I focused on re-engineering the primary clearance report so that it was easier to read. At the end of the day, I would meet with my team and get a status update of what had cleared that day. I would then double check the report and send it out across the project, ready to discuss the days events the following days. Occasionally (once every month), I would coordinate a meeting between all on-island parties concerned with the clearance of material. This would include the Russian customs brokers, my team, the logistics managers and the project managers. At these meetings we would discuss the overall strategy for clearing material and the short-term tactics necessary to meet our goals.

What they like about World Projects International:

You have a strong need to participate in making key decisions and feel left out if your superiors or co-workers do not seek your input when making decisions. You thrive on providing good customer service to both internal or external customers, and doing so makes you feel good.
