Daily Duties at Marc Glassman, Inc.:

Marc's was the 1st job I got when I moved to Cleveland in the 1990's. I was hired to manage their Pharmacy in South Euclid. I was stoked because it was good money and close to home. I had second thoughts when I discovered the Pharmacist who was already there believed he was to manage the Pharmacy also. It was hard at first; I knew we were going to butt heads. We had different opinions on everything. I was the new guy, and unsure of what I could do with the novelty of my position. He was older, and I didn't want to make a big scene at work. I was hired to make the place run better. Customer satisfaction was low I could see why. But the other Pharmacist made changes almost impossible. Fortunately, they opened a 2nd store in the area, and I jumped at the chance to run that store. We opened the store with me and 1 pharmacist and 3 technicians and began building a business. We talked to local doctors and asked if they used specific meds we should stock for them. Marc's put promotional coupons in the paper. We had time at first to talk to people and estaablish a rappore. I enjoy working with people and I know that helped grow the customer base. Marc's is a deep discount chain, and they expect volume from the store and Pharmacy. After a year or two, I noticed our volume growing. I didn't have the time to interact with customers as before. I knew things changed one Sunday at years' end. Sundays were open from 9-6 and we were usually steady. This particular Sunday I looked up from the counter and there was a line of people waiting like I had never seen before. That was the worst Sunday I every recall. I learned two things that day. 1) I needed more help on Sundays. 2)I would insist on at least 1 day to generate year end statements for the customers. I wourked for Marc's for about 10 years. A typical day went as follows: I would come into the department and assess the workload. Were there many phone calls or problems waiting for me? Mondays always had a lot of calls to make from the weekend. I had technicians to take prescriptions in from the customers, process them into the computer, and get them ready for me to check, and my technicians rang the register also. That left me to make phone calls and check prescrip0tions and handle problems. At this time I estimate I spent 1/2 my time on the phone. Calls for refills, calls for new prewscriptions, calls from customers who would only talk to me (I tried to discourage this). I felt obligated since I had been their Pharmacist for a long time. The other half of the time felt like fire control. This insurance reject, this upset customer, we were out of this or that. I had someone ask me why I was working so hard at this job; I couldn't answer why to myself. I quit shortly after that.

What they like about Marc Glassman, Inc.:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
