Head Office Internal Auditor • Identified and documented control and process weaknesses for financial and operational audits; • Planned and executed internal audit procedures; • Compiled value-adding recommendations in audit reports. Manager Accounting Control • Prepared monthly management accounts, forecasts and the financial components of board reports for banking, insurance and asset management companies in the group; • Supervised the preparation of monthly performance measurement reports to all business units and cost centers (over 60 cost centers nation-wide) in the group; • Supervised the team responsible for the Head Office general ledger, transaction processing (4 subordinates). Staff Costs Manager • Coordinated budget preparation and financial planning for staff costs at Group level (staff compliment of 1700 employees, US $50 million annual budget); • Monitored monthly variances and provided monthly forecasts for Group staff costs; • Calculated Group salary increases using excel based financial models; • Resolved technical queries on employee income tax (using Namibian income tax legislation); • Prepared reconciliations of general ledger accounts and compiled monthly general ledger reports; • Prepared accounting records, adjusting journal entries and annual financial statements for the Employee Share Incentive Trust and the Employee Staff Assistance Trust in terms of IFRS 2; • Received special exposure in the following: a) Implementation of the new payroll system – data testing, parallel runs, checking for errors and correcting errors identified (moved from Unique payroll system to Simplexity payroll system); b) Reduction of accrued benefits liability relating to post retirement medical aid benefits (defined contribution) as determined by actuaries; c) Conversion from one employee grading system to another.
