Daily Duties at Us Navy:

Leadership, training and management of personnel assigned as well as the material readiness, maintenance and reapirs of all equipment and spaces assigned The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. It is the largest navy in the world, with a battle fleet tonnage that is greater than that of the next 13 largest navies combined.[4] The U.S. Navy also has the world's largest carrier fleet, with11 in service, one under construction (two planned), and one in reserve. The service has 321,053 personnel on active duty and 106,188 in the Navy Reserve. It operates 287 ships in active service and more than 3,700 aircraft.[2] I was assigned to A Division, engineering department with 15 men, spaces, equipment and special duties as assigned (Forward refueling station safety officer, on site fire fighting officer, lead watch officer in charge – Engineerig Officer of the Watch (charged with startup, shut down and emergency operations casualty checklist-keep the ship fighting even with damage) and later to Weapons Division as Gunnery Officer assigned 20 plus men, spaces, weapons (small arms, fixed and special weapons) as well as duties assigned (Visit Board Search and Seizure Team, Shipboard security team, anti-small boat detail). A day in the life of an officer at sea will put certain officers on port and starboard rotation which means that they are on watch 6 hours and off for 6 hours. On the off 6 hours, tasks are as follows: ensure each mans PQS (personal qualification standards) are completed daily and signed off by the division officer , review and spot check the daily maintenance schedule of the all equipment and spaces assigned, determined departmental training overlap and man power readiness for said exercises, train with special assigned duty teams with and without weapons and live fire exercises. A normal day allows for 2 to 6 hours of sleep broken up throughout the day.
