Daily Duties at Graybar Electric Company:
Accept and transmit calls to and from local electrical companies and electricians. Quoted and wrote sales orders for customers including assigning the purchase for delivery or will call. Needed to understand and be able to quickly translate the request of a part into a SKU number so it could be keyed "live" while the customer was on the phone. Received faxed and emailed order which were also recorded. Needed to adhere stringently to the company's ISO registration demands. All communique with customers including orders were diligently filed and traceable. Was given "card blanche" in resolving any issues with customer complaints. Worked directly with internal customers (Finance, Shipping, Purchasing, Management, etc.) to ascertain a full-circle customer satisfaction experience. Worked directly under two outside salespersons, but devoted about 70% of my time to electical and other businesses holding accounts with the company. Worked with minimal supervision and given the charge of resolving customer issues; only having to escalate the matter to Management if the monetary value surpassed $1000. Sometimes entrusted to carry blank checks or large amounts of cash in order to secure a product from a supplier for one of their customer's orders.
What they like about Graybar Electric Company:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
