Daily Duties at Morrison Insurance Agency:
Prospecting consisted of using a variety of lead generators. Ultimately, about 60 cold calls/ day are required to be made approximately 3-4 days/ week. Marketing and scripts are often stylized for insurance in: health, life, property, casualty, supplemental, and medicare products. Several days are reserved for appointments and closing policies. Several meetings with a client may be necessary to achieve a satisfactory package. Money was collected through checks which were deposited directly to the insurance company's account or sent through EFT after receiving the customer's account information. Agent needs to understand needs-based offerings as well as how to legally contract with customers and with agencies for selling their products. After each policy is instituted, the agent must deliver it to the client and go over the coverages to ensure they're aware what they are paying for. Follow-up from either the insurance company or the client requires the agent to be the liasion to collect any additional information needed and to receive the 'wet signatures' on documents. After the policy is in force, the client will typically turn first to their agent before the company if any questions or claims arise. The agent must be able to legally counsel people who are not his customer as well as those who are regarding any matter regarding insurance. Owner/operator is in charge of deciding on advertising including decision on media (print/radio/etc.).--Each type has different merits in: audience, price range (including price breaks on amount spent), circulation, and efficacy. Agency must also consider recruiting personnel to help work phones or respond to inquiries. Agency needs to be linked to public groups to provide value to the community. Agent is legally bound by the State of Illinois Insurance Department which is the licensing body for all insurance producers.
