Daily Duties at Sci:
My projects or clients included: Thales Avionics (aircraft telecummunication systems)and Raytheon (missle and radar systems). I validated all customer orders to ensure proper pricing, lead time request and contract requirements. I had one program administrator working for me. She generated all the new orders and change orders then brought to me for signature then she routed them to all proper departments for signatures. I held daily IPT meetings which included engineering support, manufacturing support, test engineers, process engineers and supply chain. We made sure all orders were being processed effectively and efficiently to ensure customer dates and requirements were being met. I was the liason or the customers voice to all other departments. These products were designed by the customers so any change orders driven by the customer went through me first for review then I would work with all other operations departments to implement to change. I worked up the quote for these changes, as often the ECO (engineering change order) had costs associated with them. I would make sure all cost were captured but also made sure all cost were legitmate as I had to explain these costs to the customer and receive purchase orders prior to implementation. I loaded all forecast in our ERP system and ensured the accuracy as this drove procurement cycles. I reviewed all purchase price variances on my programs as this would impact my profits. I had to work very closely with the supply chain to ensure proper lead times were reflected in the systems. I visited Thales and Raytheon very often to ensure to them we were fulfilling which gave them face to face time with me and gave them a sense of security that I was managing their orders effectively. I worked closely with these customers on better forecasting techniques to drive down lead times so we can better meet their sometime challenging delivery dates. I coordinated any material that failed in the field and had to be sent back for repair (warranty). Top managed had decided that production would be better served if we moved it to our off-site faclitied. I managed a team to explore all possible internal plants that would be better suited for higher volume manufacturing. I presented date to tope management about everything my team discovered which lead to transiting some portions of our process to Thailand. From there I put a team together so that we supplied enough material in our plant to keep things moving and to ensure no impact to current customers were going to be affected. We then started setting up our Thailand facility to start making products. Kits were sent to them and prototypes had to be approved before we pulled the trigger. I sent engineers over there to ensure quality standards were met and also sent process engineers there to help streamline their process. I had to hold conference calls daily, weekly then monthly to coordinate this event. Because of the time difference this was sometimes challenging. I had to inspire my domestic team to be available one a week at night to accomodate the time difference.
What they like about Sci:
You highly value a work environment built on a formal structure, rules, and regulations. You do not enjoy the unpredictability of shifting priorities and deadlines that upset your routine. You require and enjoy direction, input and accountability as part of your work environment. You have a strong need to participate in making key decisions and feel left out if your superiors or co-workers do not seek your input when making decisions. You thrive on providing good customer service to both internal or external customers, and doing so makes you feel good.
