Daily Duties at 1996 2001 Willamette Industries:

2 Years –50 Inches Flexo Machine My role on the 50 Inches Flexo machine was to make cardboard boxes from the flat board to finished boxes with one, two, or three colors. My responsibility on this machine was to type in the computer different measurements for every order, because every order is different. I was measured with how many orders me and my assistant can finish for one day. Every order was different and it can be from 5 boxes order to twenty thousand boxes order. Some boxes that we worked on were single wall boards, some of them were double wall boxes depends what kind of boxes the customer wants. My assistant will open up machine wash out all the ink, clean rubber plates, cylinders, and dye fonts using solvent wash the machine really good. My assistant will read the order fill up different colors match it with order, and set up dyes for every order. If it a three colors the assistant will mount specified rubber plates for three cylinders, will add three colors, sett up knives on every cylinder, set up late, and printing dies on the cylinders. My assistant will set up knives on both sides to cut cardboard boxes when the cardboard box goes through the machine. After this process is done as an operator I would start the press, make sure everything is adjusted from one end of a machine to the other end of a machine. I would run slow before it is set right, I would adjust tension on belts, and align printing plates to make sure it is the right thickness on a box, it is not to thick color or too light color, maybe add some water if color is too thick, or add some color if it to light, look for marks on the boxes, run the 5 boxes adjust the color, make sure the boxes are folding correctly, adjust the glue, see if the assistant is finished his part of setting up machine. I would make sure that box is matched to box blue print, from a customer, call my assistant for second opinion to check it out, to make sure box is ready to be done. After iam done with a set up I would call my manager for a final approval to run the boxes through the press. After iam done with an order I would enter in the computer time when I started the order, enter if there is any downtime (maintenance), and enter the time when the order is finished. Then next step on this printing press would be to open up machine, clean it up, and start setting up the next order and so on to other orders.
