Daily Duties at Cummins Power Generation:
Logistics Department 7063/ 21/jan/2002/ 06/Nov/2006/ 7 years –Present Iam proud to be part of a largest department that has been large department safety audit score winner 1Q, 2Q, and 4Q, who has been a big accomplishment for logistics department. I have been an innovative logistics employee, who developed, and being part of a six sigma in efficiency improvement in warehouse picking orders to get done, faster, and more efficient to satisfy our customers from assembly lines. Operation: Reach Truck Picking. Process: 1) Pick desk: a) Tickets got printed at the desk, b) pick tickets from the pick table, c) picks for reach truck are generally for rows 19-20, 21-25, and rows 6 and 7 especially made to be picked by reach truck. Process: 2) a) I have to verify location, b) I will verify part description, c) I will scan pick ID. Process: 3) If it a tote pick, a) I would pick up 36x72 pallets, b) load pallet with as many totes as possible, c) Also sizes of totes are indicated on the pick ticket. Process: 4) If it a full load, a) I would pick the whole load along with the pallet/cargo from the location/ Process: 5) if it a partial pick, a) I would take an empty pallet to the location, b) next I would bring down the pallet load from the location, c) I would pick up required number of parts and place them on the empty pallet, shrink wrap the parts and send it to the customer. Process: 6) I will scan into RF (gun or computer device), a) scan location, b) I would scan quantity, c) next operation on the reach truck would be to scan LPN (barcode) on pick ticket if parts are placed in totes. Process: 7) I would drop off parts, a) If it a tote pick drop off totes on the orange cards, b) also if it a full load or a partial pick, and I would drop off on the Johnson cards, c) If it is pick for THOR, or the LNE 15, or LNE 05 housing I would deliver directly parts to the main drop zone. Process: 8) I would clean it as I go (7S step process), a) I would remove empty bins, b) I would recycle dunnage to make company money for recycling plastic, cardboard boxes, etc. Process: 9) last step in using reach truck picking is finishing: a) I would go back to the step one and repeat steps until all picks are completed, b) also for restocking of painted parts I would refer to post paint (any questions would ask E-Coat department) standard work. Emergency Picking Parts Process: 1) a) Emergency print pick ticket will print at the pick desk printer, 2) Our team leader or manager would sort out pick tickets at the pick desk, a) Picks-Wp’s, replenishments, emergency, also sorted by 3) a) Pick, b)turret, c) RS. In the process 4: Pick tickets from desk, sort by 5) a) row, b) department, c) preference by person/equipment. Based on size of product in the process pick 6): a) totes, b) pallets, c) cargo. Process: 7) I would verify location, next would verify part description/quantity and make sure it a right part to satisfy our customers. Process: 8) I would remove trash, empty bins, dunnage make the place cleaned using methodology (7S process). Project: 9) In the finishing process, a) I would deliver parts to the line, b) I would repeat process till picks are over, c) next work I would do would be directed by my manager or team leader. Process: 10) Replenishments orders/manual orders (picks), a) I would find tickets and time they were printed, b) I would track down pick either in the cart or the pickers in the aisle, c) Also if it an emergency request from assembly lines or office (phone or text)reach truck and turrets call for forklifts, d) direct order to line. Operation: Tote Picking Process Process: 1) I would go to the pick desk to pick up tickets, a) tickets get printed at the pick table, b) tickets have information size of totes, c) picker is used. Process: 2) Pick up totes by the pick table, a) gather totes as specified on the ticket. Process: 3) pick location, a) go to pick location, b) I would verify location, c) then I would verify part number/description. Process: 4) Counting parts: a) make a manual counts on the parts, b) I would use scale to more accurately count parts. Process: 5) Scan into RF gun: a) I would scan pick ID, b) then scan location, c) I would scan quantity and LPN (barcode). Process: 6) Dropping totes, a) I would drop the parts into the orange carts, b) I would repeat process till picks are completed. Process: 7) If it is “300” location/THOR, LNE 15/LNE05/ a) I would circle the ticket with a red pen, b) then I would drop product off at the pick table. Operation: Turret Picking Process: 1) Pick desk, a) tickets would get printed at the pick desk, b) I would pick tickets from the pick desk. Process: 2) Operator will go to the location, a) I will verify location, b) I will verify part description, c) I will scan pick ID. Process: 3) If it a full load, a) I would pick the whole load along with the pallet/cargo from the location. Process: 4) If partial load, a) I would take an empty pallet to the location, b) I would bring down the pallet load from the location, c) I would pick up required number of parts and place them on the empty pallet, shrink wrap the parts, and send it to the customer, d) I would place the original pallet load back into location. Process: 5) Scan the RF gun, a) I would scan location, b) scan quantity, scan parent LPN (barcode). Process: 6) Clean as you go, a0 remove empty cardboards, b) recycle dunnage. Process: 7) Dropping off parts, a) I would drop off the picked parts on the Johnson carts. Process: 8) If it is pick for THOR/HOUSING AREA/ a) drop off picked parts in the drop zone in thor/housing area. Process: 9) Finishing turret picking. I would repeat process from step 1 till step a finishing process. Zone Picking Operation Process: 1) Pick desk, a) pick tickets are printed at the pick table, b) I will collect tickets from the pick desk, c) tickets have information on the size of totes needed to make the pick. Process: 2) Pick up totes from row2, a) mule card is used for zone picking, b) pick up empty cart from the end of the aisle, c) pick up required number of totes from row 2. Process: 3) Pick location, a) operator will go to pick location, b) check if part is pre-toted, c) Also if part is pre-toted, I would place empty totes back in row 2. Process: 4) I would verify part description/part number/location, a) I would verify that iam at the correct location, b) I would verify that iam picking correct part number including description, c) I will verify that iam picking correct quantity. Process: 5) Operator will pick part, a) I would verify that the pick ticket is valid by scanning it before picking product, b) I would scan pick ID barcode, LPN, location and quantity into the gun, c) I would place product into the right tote. Process: 6) Clean as you go, a) I would remove trash, b0 I would recycle dunnage. Process: 7) If a part has to be weighted, a) I would use weighting scale on cart, b) if the cart is not available, drive to the front area of the warehouse and use the scale at the scale station. Process: 8) I would drop cart at the end of the aisle, a) if card is full, I would drop cart back at the end of the aisle. Process: 9) Finishing zone picking, a) I would repeat process till all picks are completed on time. Cycle Counting Process: 1) Oracle, a) Oracle will generate cycle counts. Process: 2) Operator will download cycle count into excel and print, a) cycle counts are usually sorted by location from oracle for operators. Process: 3) I will be checking part number. Process: 4) blind count, a) I would count the number of parts in the container. Process: 5) I will record quantity, I would write down quantity I printed sheet. Process: 6) I would scan location. Process: 7) I will record part number in the RF gun; a) I would scan/type part number into the gun. Process: 8) I would record quantity into the gun; a) then I would enter quantity into gun. Process: 9) In the finishing cycle counting process, a) I would repeat process in the oracle till cycle counts are completed. Job Picking Process: 1) Pick desk process, a) I would pick up pick tickets at pick desk, b) next I would sort by equipment type reach truck/turret/picker. Process: 2) Next I would sort by row, line, and preference by person/equipment type. Process: 3) Green bins/bags/pallets/ a) it is a person preference get what I think that iam going to need, b) it is sometimes printed on the pick ticket, c) also, it is based on picking location row. Process: 4) I will travel to pick location on pick ticket, a) I would verify that iam at the correct location, b) I would verify that iam picking correct part number including description, c) next step in the process I would verify that iam picking correct quantity for a customer satisfaction. Process: 5) I will scan it before I grab it, a) first I would verify that the pick ticket is valid by scanning it before picking product, b) next in the process I would pick ID (barcode),c) then I would place product into the right container. Process: 6) When location has less quantity, a) I would manually punch in the quantity, b) then it will go into a partial pick cycle count. Process: 7) Clean as you go, a) I would remove empty boxes, b) then throw away trash, c) then I would recycle dunnage. Process: 8) Product placed from picking machine onto card according to size of tote/Johnson cart if pallet, b) also if multiple parts with some delivery location, the large LPN is scanned and they are dropped in one shot, c) I would make sure loose parts are shrink wrapped on the pallet. Process: 9) In the finishing process of job picking, a) I would repeat process until all jobs are complete, b) then other work as directed by team leader or manager. Back order Pick Process: 1) If message of RF gun-“there exists back order for this item”, then I would receive the parts and attach the receipt label to the same, b) do not load received part to the stocking part, c) then I would look for the pick ticket to print (receiving dock). Process: 2) verify, a) I would check the fallowing details on pick tickets: Part,#,qty, container type (pallet/box/tote/, b) then I would segregate the required quantity of parts and move the parts to specified container, c) then I would attach the pick ticket to the container. Process: 3) Next step is fill back order, a) I would express load and drop the parts to the sub inventory mentioned on the pick ticket, b) I would write keyed on the red card ( if pallet load) and attach it to the load and if the parts are in the tote/box then write keyed on the pick ticket, c) next in the process would be to put container on the Johnson card. Process: 4) Correct receipt label, a) correct the quantity on the receipt label, b) also note the quantity backfilled on packing list. Process: 5) Finishing step in back order picking in the receiving process operator will refer standard work for receiving. Operation- Receiving Process: 1) receiving, a) I would check if parts are for production or non production items, b) all items ordered through Ariba, tool crib items are non production items, non production items are moved to dock door 113, c) for production parts I will refer to the next step in the process. Process: 2) Identify the load, a) I would locate the packing list on the load (check if there are multiple loads from some suppliers), b) if there is no packing list I would identify part # on the available documentation and/or label on the package, c) then I would enter the details on the discrepancy note. Process: 3) I would verify the part, a) I would check the part #, quantity, mentioned on the packing list with physical quantity delivered, b) also if multiple parts or the single packing list, make photo copies for each part, then I would write down number of loads o the packing list, d) then I would circle-part, quantity, PO #, and supplier on the packing list. Process: 4) Transaction, a) I would select inbound on the RF device or gun, b) then select CPGF, item PO receive, c) then I would scan or key part on RF gun. Process: 5) Transaction continue, a) I would press Ctrl # L, select the Po # mentioned on the packing list, b) then if the parts on pallet then use pre printed LPN or else use system generated LPN. Process: 6) If the parts cannot be identified or PO is not approved, I would refer to standard work for problem parts, c) also if the quantity delivered is greater then the quantity opens in the PO- I would refer to our logistics standard work for problem parts and get team involved to solve the problem together. Iam accomplished logistics strategist helping logistics employees succeed through lean training helping our team putting A-2 boards, A-3 boards, for a jobs that we are doing in the logistics department. Iam solution oriented employee helping our managers, project managers, who thrives in challenging fast paced environment where my performance directly impacts logistics department to satisfy our customers. In addition I have solid organizational leadership (learned in my masters program) and decision making skills for our receiving and logistics department, iam an employee who can make an immediately contribution to logistics and other operations in Cummins Fridley, and business development. I was hired for logistics department to work fairly, meet customer demands, to be cautious of ill-willed opportunism, to be work as a group for the common logistics goal to do it right the first time and to have the best interest for logistics and Cummins Power Generation. My responsibility in the logistics department was to produce and distribute quality products and best services towards our customers (assembly lines and office employees). My responsibility in the logistics department is to help out being the leader and to set the industry standards for excellence for my co-workers to follow my actions, using tools such as 6 sigma, 7s step process, using steps from a lean training (logistics department is a first to start using this program in all Fridley facility), putting boards, tact boards, for a communication between all three shifts in logistics department. I was hired in the logistics department to provide continues improvement driving all kinds of machines in the logistics department and innovation for logistics department to excel in the logistics field. Also my job responsibility in the logistics department is to have strong level of support and comfort, when we are dealing with multiple people from diverse countries and backgrounds mostly India and China customers. In the logistics department my role is to have solid analytical skills-analyzing data and drawing conclusions to help out our management team with projects, innovations, and also it is important to include naysayers and try as hard as possible to buy in to intervention that is taking place in logistics 7063 department. One of my skills is strong emphasis in making fast, snap of finger, independent decisions, because my managers trust my work ethics that I will make correct decision for logistics department.
