Daily Duties at Sears:
As the District Service General Manager, I directed daily activities of the department managers and was responsible for 6 retail parts stores. I provided operational guidance, leadership coaching, mentoring, and professional development. I set the customer service tone and was a role model by being a customer advocate. I acted as liaison between company and union, settling labor disputes and upholding contract specifications in an often challenging and contentious environment. I also had full budgeting and P&L responsibility
What they like about Sears:
You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
