Daily Duties at Us Army: Smdc/Arstrat Air And Missile Defense Cell:

I served as the SMDC/ARSTRAT Air and Missile Defense Liaison Officer with key officials within other Air and Missile Defense entities. I primarily accomplished three missions: ensuring adequate anti-terrorism force protection countermeasures were available, multiple operations centers were able to function as intended, and communications capabilities would function as intended. I assisted US Army and US Air Force units in ensuring that the Ground Based Mid-Course Ballistic Missile Defense (GMD) sites had adequate anti-terrorism countermeasures as well as force protection capabilities. This included conducting site surveys to determine critical assets and their vulnerabilities based on the actual threat. As well as working with the actual units, I assisted in contacting other entities to determine what countermeasures provided adequate coverage and their anticipated lifecycle costs. In addition, I worked with a team to determine what systems to acquire and continued to work with units to deploy acquired systems. In addition, I was a key member of a team that updated Alaska NORAD regions plans of actions for different threats. Throughout this process I gained in-depth knowledge of air and ground threats throughout the USNORTHCOM operating area as well as how many of these threats are countered. As I noted above, I also was instrumental in ensuring multiple operations centers were able to accomplish their missions. This included working with a team to identify gaps in required capabilities. Once gaps were identified, this team determined multiple approaches to filling these requirements. Within this group, I was the lead on developing and delivering our recommendations to senior officers, up to the Lieutenant General level. I was highly successful in obtaining assets and funds fulfil the identified requirements. I also was tasked with ensuring that the communications network for the GMD was adequate both for routine and contingency operations. To fulfill this requirement I worked with multiple non-DoD entities to understand fiber optics long distance communications flow, hardware, and software. I understood the nature of both computer based and kinetic threats to our nation’s communications infrastructure. My ability to develop contacts, fully learn the functions and threats, and be able to communicate this lead to our unit not spending over $20 million for upgrades that were not required. Besides the above, I ensured the continuous flow of accurate information to and from groups responsible for portions of the GMD support infrastructure. Due to my ability to represent commands interests, understand complex concepts, and coordinate with other DoD entities, I was selected as part of an initial team to operate the Joint Functional Component Command-Integrated Missile Defense Crisis Action Team.

What they like about Us Army: Smdc/Arstrat Air And Missile Defense Cell:

Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.
