Daily Duties at Upmc Braddock Hospital:
Coordination and performance of psychiatric evaluation; completed voluntary and involuntary commitments, made sure laboratory/ diagnostic tests were obtained for medical clearance, insurance pre-certification, liaison between psychiatrists and medical ER physicians to obtain medical clearance for admission of psychiatric and detox patients, and assignment of appropriate unit and level of care for clients' admitted or appropriate outpatient referral. When no beds were available in our hospital, performed bed search until located an appropriate place and level of care to transfer the patient. My performance as an admission coordinator for these clients made it possible for the psychiatrists to continue treating their current patients without interruptions and coming to the emergency room. It also saved them having to come to the ER in late at night versus receiving my phone call with information. The medical physicians and medical ER nurses were spared having to deal with these clients without the necessary expertise and were able to devote their attention to the more traditional medical ER clients. I also helped save time and money by keeping the flow of psychiatric/mental health and detox clients in and out of the ER in a timely and safe manner due to catching problems and admitting to the appropriate level and type of care required. I also evaluated patients already admitted to other units for possible transfer to psychiatric/mental health units. By handling mental health insurance precertification I decreased the time the business office time had to spend on these clients. By notifying the county and obtaining involuntary commitments, I assured that the commitments meant legal requirements, and promoted client and family safety and legal rights which in turn decreased legal liability risks for the hospital. I also saved the hospital money by assisting with patient care and documentation on psychiatric/mental health units when not needed in ER; seclusion/restraint patient care, psycho-education groups.
What they like about Upmc Braddock Hospital:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
