Daily Duties at Biomedical Research Models Inc:
I am a virologist (PhD) trained in molecular biology, immunology and animal infection models of viral pathogenicity, recently specializing in the development of vaccines against genital herpes caused by herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). I have additional experience with HSV-1, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and Kilham rat virus (KRV) animal infection models. For the last six years, I have been a co-investigator on two SBIR grant research projects (NIH) and have directed both mouse and guinea pig models of viral infection. As a Study Director, I have been responsible for the implementation and operation of NIH grant-funded virus-vaccine related studies and directing studies from commercial clients (CROs). During this period I have expanded my knowledge and skills working with candidate viral vaccines in animal models developing and establishing both in vitro assays and procedures (virus stock preparation, ELISA, antibody neutralization, Real-Time q-PCR) and in vivo studies (immunization, infection, sampling, clinical observation of experimental animals). I am experienced in the design, operation, and supervision of study experiments and in the interpretation, statistical analysis and reporting of results. I have been highly involved in the preparation of manuscripts, progress reports and grant proposals. In addition to my position as Study Director I served as the Health and Safety Officer (HSO) and was a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) committees at Biomedical Research Models (BRM) Inc.
