Daily Duties at San Benardino County Department Of Behavioral Health:

Managed mental health outpatient clinics and programs, and specialty programs including forensic programs, juvenile justice programs, and alcohol & other drug services. Establish priorities and set goals and objectives; Develop and monitored program budget; adjusted program expenditures in relation to revenue. Prepare budget including forecasting service needs, staffing needs, and overhead expenses. Participate in program planning, organizing, directing, and managing a county wide mental health treatment program. Conducted chart audits; evaluated the quality of program services and take corrective action when necessary. Coordinated, monitored, and evaluated contract agencies providing direct and indirect program services provide guidance on the management on mental health legislation impacting the program. Conducted program reviews to determine compliance with the county contract and state regulations; developed and implemented procedures for measuring performance outcomes. Conducted and coordinated quality utilization review activities of mental health outpatient services ensuring that these services serve their purpose and meet customer expectations. Participated in developing the department’s annual Quality Improvement Plan; acted as a liaison with managers and staff throughout the organization to evaluate the quality of services available through individual and organizational providers, advising on changes and their implementation, and providing training, tools and techniques to enable others to provide quality service. Prepared programs for Medi-Cal and Alcohol and Drug Medi-Cal certification by the state. Negotiated contracts with service providers; monitor and evaluated contract agencies; wrote proposals to meet community needs and obtain funding; develop standards for and evaluates proposals. Traveled throughout the state representing the department at meetings. Prepared organization for state reviews and coordinate quality improvement activities for the Department and the contract providers. Planned, organized, and directed services for the Juvenile Forensic Program; expanded the Forensic Adolescent Service Teams from one location to three geographical locations in collaboration with the Probation Department and County Schools, instituted a Reintegration program to assist minors with the successful integration into the community and home; and commissioned the development of a program database and online resource directory to increased the provision of services to juvenile justice minors. Provided full-scope supervision with responsibility for hiring, determining disciplinary actions, and preparing work performance evaluations. Planned, organized and directed services within Children’s treatment program. Supervised and evaluated supervisor’s skills and performance in the areas of administration and supervision. Planned, organized and directed services for the Transitional Age Youth (TAY) program; opened the One-Stop TAY Center in the East Valley, completed Request-for-Proposals (RFP) process for additional One-Stop TAY Centers. Chaired the Co-Occurring Disorder Task Force responsible for submitting a plan for the integration of Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug Services. Taught four on-going clinical documentation training modules for the Department of Behavioral Health clinical staff (includes psychologists, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. Provided triage services at the two largest regional clinics within the department of behavioral health. I provided clinical screenings and assessments to determine whether medical necessity is met. I provided services to consumers who were recently discharged from acute psychiatric care or where referred to the clinic by the crisis walk-in centers and the hospital diversion program. As the Forensic Coordinator of the Conditional Release Program, I managed all aspects of treatment activities and court correspondence. The program provides day treatment, family therapy, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, and case management. Conducted chart audits; evaluated the quality of program services and took corrective action when necessary. Also provided direct treatment services.
