Daily Duties at Sunrise Senior Living:

• Create and operate the centralized legal billing program for the corporate office • Draft and implement corporate policies to help effectively operate the company’s legal billing process (Drug Testing, Corporate and Regional Investigations, Legal Billing etc). • Serve as Stock Plan Administrator managing equity controls (SOX compliance), risk assessments, completion of Annual Proxy, equity grant, exercise and cancellation process. • Reconciles data from equity program(s) to present to the Board of Directors on a quarterly basis. • Provide support to the Senior Vice President/ Labor Lawyer on a variety of complex regulatory and legal procedures. • Provide strategic advice and recommendations to Regional Directors of Human Resources with regard to Corporate/ Field policies, rules and regulations; specifically those related to Title VII laws (EEOCs, Attorney Demands and DFEH). • Serve as mediator for corporate office when dealing with Labor Law matters that require mediating the relationship between employers and employees with “good faith” collective bargaining rights for both parties’ interest. • Research precedents for earlier interpretation of labor law to assist in writing responses and position statements to wrongful termination charges. • Manage and supervise the Ethics & Compliance Hotline by reviewing and investigating the Compliance Specialist final reports from all calls. • Participate in all “fact findings” for wrongful termination charges or claims with outside counsel. • Handle responses to employment related subpoenas internally, which requires being familiar with each states regulations as it relates to employee or ex-employee personnel files. • Attend various CLE classes in Washington, DC and Virginia related to workplace safety and health, employee benefits, discrimination, criminal background checks and labor relations. • Frequently use Certiphi for background checks to make a decision along with research from Lexis Nexis if an applicant can or cannot be hired. • Actively work to implement models from pooled data to assist in reducing the number of cases settled and the amount settled for significantly from prior years. • Actively work to mediate matters for sums below what is budgeted. • Provide assistance to other attorneys and the Compliance Director, as needed.
