Daily Duties at Harvard Medical School:
• Total synthesis of C14 radiolabeled glycolipid antigens found in M. Tuberculosis and study its role in immunology- applied organic chemistry skills to perform multi steps synthesis. • Solid-phase synthesis of 10-12 long peptides followed by acylation with stearic acid, to generate library of lipopeptide antigens followed by optimization to study structural activity relationships (SAR). • Grow various strains of Mycobacteria, prepare growth media, lysates, buffers, solvents, reagents for the extraction of lipids, proteins. • Analytical method development using various solvent system, chromatographic columns to identify lipids, glycolipids, lipopeptide antigen found in the cell wall of Mycobacterial strains. • Synthesis, purification and analysis of peptides, proteins and small molecules by HPLC, LC-MS, SEC, KF, MS-MS, NMR, UV-Vis, IR, SDS-PAGE, DSC, TGA, GC, Prep-TLC. • Carbohydrate, lipid and peptide chemistry, extensive training in radioisotope synthesis. • Worked closely with immunologist, analytical and synthetic chemist, medical professionals and tuberculosis experts.
