Daily Duties at Smart Buildings, Inc:

Responsibilities: • Principal Consultant and Founder • Business Development & Marketing, General Management • As consultant to Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance NEEA: o Played pivotal role in defining motivation for mechanical contractors to voluntarily participate in energy conservation market transformation in 4 Northwest states. o Worked closely with NEEA management team for public relations and advertising materials design, website content, and trade show evaluations. o Researched and sought out third party software and equipment for evaluation and eventual incorporation into contractor’s use for building tune-up activity. o Conducted market analysis to determine which contractors to invite for participation o Interviewed short listed contractors at C-level and recruited eventual candidates for 12 selected beta site partners. o Worked closely with each contractor for business plan development, sales and operations training. o Coached and worked closely with contractor sales team members to develop and make comprehensive presentations and proposals to their clients. o Trained contractor sales teams on commercial building survey techniques to identify and evaluate energy waste conditions and create and sell efficiency solutions. o Coordinated and facilitated all factory training and with suppliers of new technology, building tune-up and measurement/verification equipment, and NEEA technical advisory training to contractors. o Directed fund allocation of $500K contractor assistance annual budgets. o Prepared, and presented to NEEA market manager, weekly progress reports reflecting market growth success for each of 12 contractor partners in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. o Co-chaired weekly meetings with NEEA technical advisory consultant(s) to determining technical training needs of each contractor, and coordinated training activity schedules. o Assisted NEEA at technical trade shows with marketing support as needed. o Worked closely with NEEA marketing manager and outsourced advertising agency on advertising and promotional literature and website ideas. o Participated, as needed, on meetings with NEEA stake holders, BPA and electric utilities, throughout the 4 NW states. Presentations were reflective of market transformation progress, new technologies discovered and introduced to the contractor teams and their customers, and reflections of market awareness and acceptance of new initiative. Developed business models for contractors for expansion into energy services arena for commercial. Taught technical staff techniques for scoping buildings for energy saving ideas, benchmarking buildings' energy efficiency ratings, optomizing equipment utilization, upgrading lighting system options, and identifying low-cost no-cost improvements to save energy. • As consultant to Portland Community College: o Negotiated contract as owners representative for major (3 comprehensive campuses, 7 centers and dozens of independent locations) replacement of college district’s energy management system. Construction contract award was $1.8M o Coached facilities administration on best practices for selection of appropriate technology as cornerstone of design selection. o Analyzed architecture of district’s existing control network for verification of bid documents. o Interviewed facilities operations staff on likes, dislikes and wishes of existing control systems o Researched specification and availabilities of new technologies available on the market; presented results to facilities management for review and selection of new framework o Created Request for Proposal document o Assembled recommended “short list” of contractors qualified for consideration to participate in RFP and project o Developed infrastructure of and facilitated initial project introduction to interested respondents meeting. o Developed objective grading and assessment standards for selection committee to evaluate proposal responses. o Participated as evaluation team member o Facilitated presentations of interviews and presentations of finalists o Provided technical assistance for review of final proposals o Conducted review of submitted construction documents from eventual successful contractor. o Authored guidelines for service/maintenance contract for College’s standards • As joint venture partner with NorthWrite on State of Idaho Project: o Conducted market research following federal stimulus fund placement o Researched application(s) of State of Idaho’s usage of monies received o Initiated joint venture partnership with CEO of NorthWrite, Inc. and developed strategic plan for marketing services to State of Idaho. o Contacted Idaho Office of Energy Resources advisors, presented solution for measurement and verification of program to implement energy efficiency into all K-12 schools. o Coordinated and facilitated presentation of unsolicited proposal to Office of Energy Resources staff and advisor. o Created guide specification for Request for Proposal consideration o Conducted market analysis for qualified electrical “sub” contractors throughout the State of Idaho o Interviewed and selected, and trained electrical sub-contractor. Assisted in sub contract installation bid design and preparation o Coordinated with major electrical utilities in State of Idaho for support and approval of proposed solution. o Authored response documents to RFP o Engineered hardware solution for inclusion into proposal response o When notified of apparent success in winning $500K contract, negotiated final details w State o Mobilized project as project manager with State of Idaho and electrical sub-contractor o Coordinated training package design with State of Idaho
