As my practice grew from just myself, an office manager and a medical assistant, I eventually ended up with 4 board=certified MD's, 21 employees, a billing department, the building of a facility to house our practice and be able to offer comprehensive blood testing, mammography studies, simple X-rays and complete fetal monitoring capabilities. Gross revenues exceeded 5 million dollars and due to exceptional billing and coding procedures, had an accounts receivable of less than #10,000 at any given time. We offered health benefits to all employees and set up a 401K for them so that all of us were able to put away monies in our retirement accounts. We had to undergo state audits of our lab and X-ray facilities and maintain all OSHA standards throughout the offices. We then expanded to 2 other locations, setting up satellite office locations to be able to offer our services to more patients and grow our business. I was active in the community events and often partnered with the neighboring hospital to provide health screenings, seminars on all relevant health issues and lectures to promote health maintenance and wellness. As the Chairperson of the Department of OB/GYN I wrote the policy and procedure manuals for all of the staff physicians and worked with the Director of Nursing to ensure the highest quality of clinical care and "best clinical practices" for all in-patient and ambulatory patients. Under my tenure, I oversaw the complete physical renovation of the OB/GYN department to include state of the art labor rooms, birthing suites, 24/7 obstetrical anesthesia and an onsite pediatrician/neonatologist to care for a sick newborn, should one be delivered.
