Daily Duties at Air Force Technical Application Center :

• Identified and implemented interdisciplinary research efforts supporting biological, chemical and nuclear disciplines. • Investigated aerobiology issues (transmission of organisms) and related disciplines. This effort provided a solid conceptual background to allow for support of the Bio-surveillance trail boss at JPEO-CBD. • Gained broad insights into CBRNE issues by supporting program interface with broad range of unique end users. • Member of review team for DOE NA-22 program proposals for weapons and nuclear detection. Participated in program conference reviewing proposals and insights from previous work. • Modified program management structure to implement GANTT charts using Microsoft Project for R&D efforts. The implementation of this effort necessitated the identification of critical milestones and allowed for the identification of program interfaces and overlaps. • Supported Concept Technical Demonstrations as joint efforts between disparate potential military and nonmilitary users. • Coordinated working groups to define new technologies for acquisition program through annual program meeting with representatives from DOE, DOD, and the intelligence community. • Worked directly with internationally renowned researchers from national laboratories and supporting contractor organizations, and researched a variety of scientific disciplines. • Provided program oversight for a team of military, government civilian, and contractor personnel administering an $8M CBD R&D program in support of acquisition efforts o The impact of this resource constrained effort was maximized by utilizing physical chemistry and microscopy resources in sister programs. • Program Lead for various field trials. One example, supporting a proof of concept initiative, included a 6-week trial field effort involving 17-20 military and civilian personnel, and utilized air and ground operations. o This effort was preceded by over 6 months of preparation which included the design construction and validation of an innovative labeled stain. o Operational training provided to military and civilian personnel to allow for analysis of various environmental samples using microbiology and molecular biology techniques. o Presented findings from field trials to Air Force/Army and other potential users through reports and briefings. • Goals for trials necessitated construction of unique test strains. I designed a series of strains labeled with the genes for production of green, yellow and red fluorescent proteins. This allowed for visual confirmation of isolates as well as DNA screening for the marker. • Continual reevaluation of support capabilities of mobile field laboratory. Through the 8 years of the program I worked to identify and supervise the installation of upgrades to the system and test equipment. • Briefed results of field trials placing them in the context of concurrent related research efforts to senior level executives in classified environments.
