Daily Duties at Belorussian Russian Investment Committee:
Director of project with GM. GM has decided to open new factory in Belarus, due to the fact that Belarus does not have its own car manufacturer. I was hired by Russian Belarussian committee to build a project and build the factory. Russian government was behind this too. I started from gathering a team (marketing director, operation director, management director and finance director to put together a business plan). Each person had to reaserch all the details of the business plan and contribute to one. We found what GM model is more suitable for production (Opel Astra) How many cars can we manufacture and sell What our distribution channels are, established relationships with dealers and so on. While doing research GM approved our idea of manufacturing OPEL so we continued I found out that FORD production facility in Belarus, which was built by FORD for 50mln $, now for sale by the Belarussian bank. I inspected the factory and found out that it is ideal for our assembly line which I planned. All equipment is readjustable and can be used for OPEL. So i negotiated a deal with a bank to buy this brand new factory for 30cents on the dollar for 15mln from original 50mln. Later we I put together a business plan and presented it to GM, VP Mr. Herman with note that we can buy factory and save 35mln in construction cost. All looked good till political relationship has changed between Russina and Belorussian presidents. GM was not willing to take political risks. Due to that fact GM withdrew from the project and the project was closed.
