Daily Duties at Southwest Independent School District:
I studied the state Standards for my second grade classroom to plan and execute lessons for my students and then I would assess them to determine if they understood the material. I worked with a team of 2-3 other teachers and taught every core subject to mixed-ability classrooms that included special education students. I moved out of state in July, 1999 and it took me a year to find a teaching job with Cleveland Metropolitan School District for the 2000-2001 school year.
What they like about Southwest Independent School District:
Working in an organization that is technologically advanced, creative, and innovative is critical in your assessment of hiring companies. Less important to you are stability of the organization, the length of time an organization has been in business, and the business' plans for the future. You prefer a fast-moving company that will take risks to achieve its goals and objectives. The length of time the company has been in business is irrelevant. Maintaining status quo is unnecessary. You thrive on change, uncertainty and the upside of potential business risks, especially those associated with innovation. Stability for the long haul is not nearly as important as is working in an atmosphere that is charged with a sense of urgency and constant change.

A true story written by three men who grew up in poverty in urban Newark, NJ. They made a pact with each other to rise above the ghettos. In the end, they did become doctors and now serve in the same city in which they grew up. |
We Beat the Streets |
This is the adolescent version of The Pact. I like to read this version to my intermediate classes to show them college is a possibility for them. |
