Daily Duties at Bermuda Electric Light Company:

• Contract assignment to perform diagnostic, corrective, predictive and preventive maintenance on AC/DC electric motors, programmable logic and electromagnetic controllers, generators, voltage regulators, power inverters/converters, uninterruptible power supplies, LV/HV (110v, 220v, 480v, 4160v, 13.8kv) generators, switchgear and power transmission equipment, process control and instrumentation equipment, electrical system protective relay systems in a 125MW combined gas turbine (Allison/Rolls Royce, ABB and Solar) and diesel (Fairbanks Morse, Sulzer, Caterpillar, Mann)power plant. Calibrated, repaired and installed plant instrumentation and process control equipment. • Successfully applied accepted industry standards for electrical, mechanical and fluid systems installation. • Interpreted diagrams, schematics, blueprints and manufacturers’ technical manuals. • Installed equipment upgrades according to specifications, modified or fabricated components as required and developed maintenance procedures/equipment operational guidelines. • Designed and built equipment infrastructure, installed, troubleshot, repaired or removed equipment and cable/wire using basic engineering skills, hand-powered and precision measuring, testing and calibration tools and instruments. • Scheduled and managed work requests, requisitioned repair parts and managed/documented machinery maintenance and performance history. • Served as Power Generation Department Technical Writer/Librarian. • Assisted Operations personnel in all aspects of Power Generation Equipment start-up, control and operation. • Utilized compute-based diagnostic equipment and computer maintenance management systems (CMMS), including: Advantis, Maximo, Taylor Modicom, MS Wonder ware, Windows NT, General Electric FANUC and Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation Logix 5000 PLC3 and PLC 5 systems. • Acted as Engineering Aide to outside vendors, contractors and in-house engineers, providing support services, technical assistance and project management. • Ensured safety during practical training of apprentices and other junior personnel. • Member of Emergency Response Team, on a rotating 5-week schedule rotating with other specialists, 24 hours, Monday-to-Monday to provide rapid response to forced unplanned equipment outages.
