Daily Duties at Michigan National Bank:

Intially I was responsible for preparing and analyzing credit requests presented by loan officers and then reviewing existing loans for asset quality purposes. After a short stint I was promoted to a CLO and given a portfolio of loans to small and middle market companies. Responsibilities included managing and growing the existing portfolio, cross selling other bank products and services where possible and bringing in new business. I was responsible for submitting new credit requests, periodic meetings with the customers, presenting the credit requests to the bank's loan committee(s), and closing loans. As Assistant Treasurer of the holding company I was responsible for cash management activities, managing the banking relationships, assisting with capital raising efforts at the holding company, assisting in the establishment of a dividend reinvestment policy for shareholders and a bank dividend policy for the holding company banks. As VP of Private Banking I was responsible for starting up and managing this new department for the bank. I was responsible for approving credit up to $1 million on my signature, hiring and managing employees and growing the business.

What they like about Michigan National Bank:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
