Daily Duties at Flagstar Bank:

My responsibilities were to originate a commercial real estate portfolio of loans for the company that met approved underwriting guidelines. The loans included mini-perm loans, and loans for commercial and residential development, and construction loans. The real estate categories were apartment buildings, office buildings, industrial buildings and residential development. I was responsible for meeting targets for loan production, fee income and assets quality metrics for the portfolio each year. I networked on a continual basis to obtain business from referral sources both inside and outside the bank. I solicited loan requests along with obtaining financial information on the project, the borrower and the guarantor, making site inspections including taking pictures of the proposed collateral or the area to be developed, prepared loan requests including pricing of the loan and the structure of the loan, writing officer comments describing the entire loan transaction and the weaknesses and strengths of the deal, and made loan presentations to the bank's loan committee(s) to obtain approval of the loan. I was responsible for selling the loan to the client and overseeing the closing process which included internal bank prepared loan documentation and the use of outside bank attorneys to prepare loan documents depending on the size and scope of the transaction. I also had shared responsibility to close the loan within the approval requirements. Other responsibilities included risk rating of the loans, assisting in the collection of loan payments, overall monitoring of the loan portfolio, property inspections, customer call memos posted to the file, preparing renewals and extensions of loans and providing assistance in the work out of loans that had become delinquent.
