Daily Duties at Uab:
Worked closely with neurosurgeons, neurologists and general surgeons to insure optimal health outcomes of assigned patients; Performed complete physical and neurological assessments for assigned patients; recovered patients post operatively in the unit; completed all required lab work for each assigned patient; Administered medications, intravenous fluids and tube feedings per MD orders; Monitored hemodynamic status of assigned patients; Followed standard procedures and protocols required to manage patients, administered blood products per physician orders, collaborated with multidisciplinary medical professionals to develop and implement care plans for assigned patients, monitored intracranial pressure (ICP) for assigned patients, changed dressings, lines and tubings according to protocol to minimize infection and promote healthy outcomes for patients, utilized universal precautions when handling patients, followed strict isolation procedures when necessary for respective patients; Maintained open and effective communication with the medical team, patient and family members when appropriate on the status, updates and changes in patient's care plan; Provided total patient nursing care in the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit where most patients received care post central nervous system incidents i.e. aneurysms, spinal cord injuries and stroke patients.
