Daily Duties at South Texas Veterans Health Care System:

Health System Specialist / Process Improvement Coordinator (2006-2011) Designed short and long-range policies and plans for systems redevelopment in alignment with the Medical Center’s requirements and objectives. Employed various management techniques, including Six Sigma methodologies, Lean Management and Performance Improvement principles, as well as Flow Mapping. Oversaw facilities system redesign initiatives and other critical programs that impact patient care access and timely delivery to address their healthcare needs. Acted as a planning and consulting expert while implementing redesign project strategies. Produced and presented informational reports related to program planning and assessment. Coordinated and developed numerous studies and in-depth analysis of functions and processes concerning patient care long-range planning and access impact, and other process issues. Served as the main point-of-contact for key internal and external groups such as the National Systems Redesign Coach and VISN 17 systems committee members and consulting agencies. Addressed all major system program issues. Performed monthly provider panel management. Chaired monthly clinical and administrative performance meetings, as well as monthly Process Improvement Committee meetings. Responded to congressional and patient complaints. Led staffing interview panels and process action teams. Maintained inpatient and outpatient dashboards. Instituted the utilization management and bed flow department, and audited provider schedules to ensure optimal time usage. Led staff training sessions on customer service, admissions and discharge processes for residents and hospital attendees
