Daily Duties at Tufts University:

- I performed novel research with pro-angiogenic small molecule peptides and generated antibodies raised against these peptides, utilizing several cell-based assays which examined the impacts of these molecules and their antibodies on the growth, migration, and morphology. For this research, I prepared peptides in solution, cross-linked them for antigen injections, and fractionated and affinity purified antibodies from rabbit serum. I also maintained primary cell culture stocks and performed many ICC-based experiments upon them. Additionally, I ran myriad Western blots and several ELISAs as basic biochemistry tests of protein expression changes. - I oversaw day-to-day management of the laboratory. I trained new research students in lab techniques, scheduled equipment repairs, and ordered all needed lab supplies and reagents.

What they like about Tufts University:

A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
