Daily Duties at Miami Veterans Affairs Medical Center :

Work involved installing, configuring, and maintaining Cisco Catalyst Switches 4506, 2950, 3500 network ports , router, and servers and Cisco Systems Linksys workgroup switch model EZXS55W that support a very complex network. I have worked with TCP/IP for printers and laptops and medical equipment, DHCP for workstations. I helped convert the Miami VA Healthcare system from Nortel system to the current Cisco system we use to date. We went from static IP to DHCP with our printers remaining static and changing all serial printers to network printers using Lantronix server cards. Set up the Mobile VA Clinic with the Satellite system for the use of laptops and printers and medical peripherals like Glucos meters and I-med consent pads after hurricane Katrina. Used my pocket IPAQ to check the wireless network for strength and range of signal. Completed work is typically accepted without technical change but is reviewed for effectiveness in meeting end user, customer and vendors requirements, conformance with VA policy, accomplishment within acceptable timeframes, and customer satisfaction. I am required to optimize and fine tune performance, troubleshoot problems ranging from common to complex, and evaluate and recommend upgrades and enhancements to the current network so that it won’t affect service to the end user. Extensive knowledge in the making of user accounts and groups, giving employes power user rights guest accounts and remote desktop users along with Miami VA Medical Center Techs administrator rights to work the computer equipment. Extensive working knowledge of Cisco network systems along with Windows 2000 and Windows XP and Windows 2003 operating systems. Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities and risks and maintain server integrity and availability. Strong working knowledge Microsoft XP/2003 that is Operating system Miami VA Medical Center uses. I use the software package everyday and troubleshoot everyday. Alternate Instructor for the Computer Orientation course for the Miami VA Health Care System. We have at the Miami VA Medical Center over 2000 users using the system on a daily basis that we have common drives, individual drives and shared drives that we map and maintain so the end users can reach their files and save their work. As a GS-11 IT Specialists, I had a GS-9 that is under my leadership as my team member. I made sure his/her work orders are completed on a timely manner and to the customer satisfaction. I train him on work orders that he doesn’t understand or needs help in completing. I schedule our projects that we do as a team making sure our schedules out in conflict with each other or the clients. . Prioritize work orders from Average to High through Emergency. Making sure Emergency work orders always comes first then High work orders next and then Average work orders, also deciding if the Emergency work order is patient care or clinical related or just office related.
