In the capacity of the duties for the positions listed above, these include monitoring Families to ensure they are complying with their Court Ordered Services consisting of completing their Parent Education Order, attending Therapy on a regular basis without missing any Sessions, and of course, regular and consistent quality visitation with their children. Eventually, the children are returned to their Parents on what is known as a 90 Day Trial Visit, and the duty of the Social Worker is to monitor that the parents are in compliance with their duties as parents, where the risk for Abuse or Neglect has been reduced or eliminated. After several weeks or months in this component, the Court may Terminate Jurisdiction where the children are no longer Dependents of the Juvenile Court. There are times when Parents do not complete their court ordered services prior to having their children returned to them, so then the children are placed on what is known in CWS as a permanent plan, which consists of Long Term Foster Care, Guardianship or Adoptions. In the Division of Emergency Response, Social Workers have 2 to 24 hours to respond to the allegations of Abuse or Neglect. The Allegations are investigated and if the allegations are discovered to be unfounded, the Referral is closed. In the case where the allegations are discovered to be true, parents are offered Services through what is known as Voluntary Services. If the parents accept this offer, they are given services to reduce or eliminate the Risk for Abuse or Neglect. If the parents do not comply, they are referred to the Juvenile Court for Court Ordered Services to eliminate or reduce the Risk for abuse of neglect. In some cases where the investigation yields evidence that the abuse is quite serious, the social worker must resort to the Juvenile Court to ensure that the Juvenile Court, Dependency Division, orders services to the family, including the children and the parents, while the child or children are removed from the parents’ custody and place in foster care. Eventually, this is where the component of “Family Maintenance and Reunification” is established.
