Daily Duties at Philips Semiconductor:
1995-2001 Wet Etch Maintenance Section Manager at Philips’s wafer fab facility in San Antonio, Texas. Responsible for: • Equipment availability: MTBF, MTTR, PM program, mechanical yield, and over-all equipment improvements in the wet etch area as well as all chemical distribution, both high purity and CMP slurries, to the fab. I also approved and dealt with service contracts on an on-going basis for numerous tool sets. • Maintenance personnel: A group of 25 technicians reported directly to me. This group was non-existent until I was transferred from San Jose, Ca. to San Antonio specifically to form a separate maintenance group consisting of 25 technicians on four shifts. Since consolidation of the wet benches and associated equipment into one group under my direction we have met or exceeded all our set goals in the above indices. During this time I was also heavily involved in the conversion from 150mm to 200mm wafer processing. I also administered several maintenance service contracts and site service contracts. The success of this group was greatly enhanced due to the Continuous Improvement environment I fostered. 1991-1995 I was a maintenance manager at the VLSI, San Jose, Ca. wafer fab. As a maintenance manager in San Jose I was responsible for equipment availability, MTBF, MTTR, PM program, and overall equipment improvements in all areas of the fab at different points in time. Attended Dale Carnegie Public Speaking as well as numerous technical seminars and short-courses. 1989-1995 Production Supervisor In 1989 I was hired at VLSI as a production supervisor and held that position, eventually, in all areas of the wafer fab in San Jose until 1991 when I moved into the maintenance manager position. As a supervisor I was responsible for planning and achieving day-to-day manufacturing goals in through-put, cycle time, process yield, defect density, and wafer cost. Attended numerous Deming Philosophy seminars and workshops.
What they like about Philips Semiconductor:
A hiring company that offers alternative approaches to pay, performance bonuses, and/or equity in the firm is very attractive to you. You're generally less interested in working for an organization offering only traditional, salary-based compensation, one with limited opportunity to acquire equity in the firm, or one that does not actively promote skill development. In addition, you are more likely to choose a company that offers a variety of internal career options, with defined career paths. You view the learning of new skills and development of your expertise as key to your career advancement. These aspects of an organization may become even more important to you as you progress in your field, and are especially critical if you change career or occupation.
