Daily Duties at Naval Surface Warfare Center:

• Work with Mechanical Transmissions Branch o Seawolf Sanitary Pump check Valve Redesign o Formulated four (4) redesigns for the Seawolf (submarine) sanitary pump check valve. Designed and fabricated a test loop to test and demonstrated valve effectiveness, including the development of the test site Mission Readiness Plan, and Safety Plan. All redesigned valves demonstrated a test life of at least six months, with full lab-simulated operational requirements. • Competent in 3D modeling projects, including work involving Autodesk Mechanical Desktop and Inventor software • Engineering of Large Pulper Solid Waste Machine o Assistant project manager o TECHEVAL, OPEVAL on CVN 73 o Testing operation and facilities o ILS Documentation o Review of contractor’s fabrication drawings o Extensive laboratory testing o Government representative for the shipboard workspace preparation and system installation on CVN 73 o Supervised and directed at-sea testing on CVN 73 o development of complete technical manuals and maintenance and operational procedures o Conducted Human Factors Assessment o Operational safety and operability analysis o Mechanical and electrical safety (during normal operation as well as for all failure modes) o Ergonomics, and work environment (e.g. noise thresholds) analysis • Engineering of Plastics Processor Solid Waste Machines o TECHEVAL, OPEVAL o Testing operation and facilities o ILS Documentation o Review of contractor’s fabrication drawings • Engineering involved with the Affordability Through Commonality Project o Lead Engineer for SMART Track (mounting system for electronic and control modules within shipboard CIC and Bridge spaces) o Government engineer involved with CVN 68 SMART Track installation o Project Engineer for Steering Gear Module Development o Gave Briefings to Project Engineer/Program Manager/Program Office on project status o Serve as Project Engineer for Branch Projects on interim basis, including the Environmental Modules, Lubrication, and Hydraulic Modules. o Monitor technical and programmatic performance of project Contractor o develop project plans/statements of work, schedules, and objectives o track progress, direct and approve Contractor actions, review and monitor reports, drawings, and test plans • Engineering with Composite Machinery Group o Design and installation of composite piping and valve sections on CVN 71 o Design and installation of composite ductwork assemblies installed aboard CVN 71 o Design and testing of composite valve shock and vibration protection and mitigation structures o Design of composite valves for water and sewage service, functioning as the lead engineer involved with the production of the valve drawings. The valves have successfully passed shock, vibration and fire testing, and have been included in the Specification for the LPD 17 ship design
