Daily Duties at Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding:

• Worked as lead engineer for the installation of the PAWDS (Plasma Arc Waste Destruction System) onto CVN 78. The PAWDS is basically a high-tech new incinerator to process shipboard waste into inert ash and harmless gases. o Responsible for the development of the 3D Product Model of the system, and its installation and integration with the shipboard systems (firemain, potable water, deionized water, nitrogen, helium, and drainage systems). o Responsible for analyzing and reviewing the system design for performance and shipboard integration. o Responsible for overseeing the shipboard integration of the PAWDS into the CVN 78, which included interfacing with modelers, others responsible for the shipboard service systems, program managers, and government officials. • Waterfront shipyard engineering work in support of CVN 65 overhaul o Composed and resolved Inspection Reports (IRs) concerned mainly with CVN 65 Main Engine issues, including issues associated with:  Seals  Thrust bearings  Journal bearings  Access covers and pressure boundaries  Steam piping and valves  Condenser performance and contamination  System guard valves, including clearances, welding operations, steam leak damage problems, and actuator issues  Sealing components  Main steam component failure analysis  Steam plant cleanliness issues  System pressure and flow problems  System corrosion problems  System instrumentation o Worked with Trades to complete IR resolution, address unforeseen issues, and work with Vendor Service Representatives o Composed and processed Vendor Service Requests (VSR) to attain services of component vendors, and followed through with processing of their reports and investigations o Composed, negotiated and processed Deviation From Specifications (DFS) paperwork for issues concerning CVN 65 main engines, guard valves, and condensers • Shipyard engineering work in support of CVN 77 new construction o Review technical software articles, and work on shipboard integration issues with Oily Waste System Membrane Polishing Unit o Review Vendor drawing packages for conformance to equipment specification and Contract Requirements o Review machinery shock test reports for conformance to equipment specification and Contract Requirements o Review machinery vibration test reports for conformance to equipment specification and Contract Requirements o Composing and processing of necessary paperwork and system descriptions in accordance with U. S. Deportment of State International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which are legally required when dealing with foreign companies. • Developed a working knowledge of Newport News Standard Shipyard Procedures • Received RADCON training and successfully completed requirements for 106.5.a Radiation Worker • Completed preliminary EIR training
