Daily Duties at Univeristy Of California Irvine:
Manages multiple studies on glucose/cholesterol metabolism, liver physiology, oncology, and endocrinology. Writes grants to secure funding for the lab, including competitive fellowship applications, project grants, and travel grants. Handles administrative duties such as developing time frames for projects, calculating consumable costs and cost effectiveness, and fulfilling departmental and institutional requirements. Develops project layouts and writes protocols and SOPs for experiments and animal care. Prepares manuscripts for publishing and serves as an external reviewer for articles published in various journals. Attends workshops on lab techniques and medical topics; trains undergrads, MDs, and PhDs in lab techniques; supervises and mentors PhD students. Initiates translational research projects with other institutions by successfully networking with medical doctors and scientists for collaboration.
