Daily Duties at Carraway Methodist Medical Center:
* I worked on IMC, a monitored intermediate care unit, and provided direct quality care for a diverse patient population, which included cardiac, pulmonary, GI, CVA's, renal and hepatic failure, and trauma patients. * As Assistant Head Nurse, I made daily staff assignments for approximately 12 nurses and three PCTs, gave frequent inservices, evaluated staff, ordered unit equipment, and assisted the head nurse with her duties. * IMC also contained a four bed post-op vascular unit, with bedside monitoring equipment for each bed. The unit accommodated ventilator patients, art-lines, and central lines for CVP. * Accomplishments while on IMC included designing a structural change for greater unit efficiency, managed a smooth unit move twice to another floor, and wrote unit specific policies and procedures. * Duties while working in Carraway's Level 1 Trauma Center included rapid triage and care of all presenting patients, starting IV s, placing Foley catheters, NG/OG tubes, care of new and chronic wounds, ostomy and trach care, care of patients on the ventilator, placing simple OCL splints, blood transfusions, eye examinations, irrigations with Morgan lenses, and assisting with rape exams. * Trauma bay duties varied by station, but included rapid placement of monitoring equipment and BP, documentation, use of the Level I, setting up and assisting with DPL, chest tubes, central lines, emergency trachs, intubations, and the timely transport of patients to Cat Scan, OR, or ICU. * I maintained current ACLS, PALS, and BCLS certifications.
