Daily Duties at St. Joseph Hospital:

I worked as a radiologic technician at hospitals that were contracted or affiliated with St. Joseph Hospital. I remained on staff; even though, I left the country to attend a medical program. I was originally hired at an entry level position and was later promoted to a senior position. As an senior x-ray technician, it was my responsibility to perform radiographic techniques, position and operate conventional and special equipment for the purpose of performing mammographic examinations, to perform administrative work and quality assurance to facilitate the scheduling of patients and the accuracy and completeness of records in the Diagnostic Imaging Division, to receive patients and explain method of procedures, to perform radiographic examinations using special low dose techniques, position patients, select and set technical factors and adjust equipment parameters taking into consideration physical differences in patients and make exposures necessary for the requested procedure, to assure that sterile supplies, local anesthetics, contract materials, catheters, and other required equipment are present and laid out, to assess the sensitivity of the film processor, to track and maintain records of preventive maintenance, equipment service calls, and quality control measures, to maintain statistics concerning radiographic studies, to coordinate work of other technicians when procedures require more than one person, and lastly; to assist with on-the-job training of new employees and students, and provide input to supervisors regarding training performance.
