Daily Duties at Battelle Memorial Institute:

Receive, set up, maintain, troubleshoot and repair analytical laboratory equipment. Perform operational check and acceptance testing on analytical laboratory equipment. Perform aspects of instrument operation including calibration, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the HP 5890/6890/6890N Gas Chromatographs with FID, FPD, ECD, and 5972 / 5973N /5975B MSD (Chemical Ionization and Electron Ionization). Perform aspects of instrument operation of HP 5972, 5973N, and 5975B GC/MSD and Purge and Trap system. Conduct specific analysis of lethal chemical agents in accordance with EPA and SW846 methods. Data acquisition, data editing and providing data for instrument/data management system.(LIMS) Perform hazardous waste worker duties involving movement, containerization, storage, identification, record keeping, emergency response and/or disposal. Perform specific special analysis (to include extractions, titrations, dilutions, and various other techniques)on hazardous waste in accordance with SW846 methods. Preparation and verification of all chemical agent laboratory working standards. Conduct quarterly chemical inventory and order necessary supplies. Maintain records associated with special off-site analyses of environmental samples.
