Daily Duties at Sinai Hospital Of Detroit:

I was recruited by the chairman of medicine at Sinai Hospital to establish a state-of-the-art clinical and research hyperlipidemia program. We decided to first establish a lipid laboratory for the accurate and precise measurement of lipids and lipoproteins. Through the recommendation of my lipid mentor at the Mayo Clinic, I applied for enrollment into the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institutes' lipid proficiency testing program. We received acceptance and embarked on completing the stringent, three year accuracy and precision testing requirements. We successfully completed the requirments, received certification and applied for grants/contracts requiring standardized lipid testing. Our first award was from E.R Squibb and Sons to provide lipid, lipoprotein and apolipoprotein testing to the clinical sites participating in the phase 3 development of pravastatin. This award was followed by numerous awards to provide standardized lipid testing for both industry and the government (i.e., NIH). I prepared many of the protocols and served as the investigator for these contracts/grants. I also applied for and was successful in receiving grants (e.g., AHA, industry) to support investigator initiated research studies of lipoprotein metabolism and atherogenesis. I established a hyperlipidemia consultative service for the medical staff and participated in the education of the cardiology fellows. I provided assistance and direction for the cardiac rehabilitation program and the dietary department. I also served on the Sinai IRB for 10 years.

What they like about Sinai Hospital Of Detroit:

The social vibrance of a hiring firm is very important to you. Your ability to make and maintain friendships there is a critical part of your decision. You would likely be dissatisfied with a workplace that is quiet, cold, or otherwise not particularly social. When you investigate a new hiring company, ask recruiters, managers, and potential co-workers about the social life and opportunities there. This is especially important when you are relocating; moving dramatically alters your social sphere both inside and outside the workplace.
