Daily Duties at William Beaumont Hospital:

I was Director of the Beaumont Research Coordinating Center BRCC), a contract research organization (CRO). I was hired to develop and transform what was then called the "PAMI" research group into a full-service CRO. The "PAMI" research group was a cardiology research support group. I restructured this research group into clinical management and data mananagement units, and wrote standard operating procedures consistant with the services offered by a full service CRO. I was responsible for the regulatory affairs, budget, quality assurance and preparation of protocols and case report forms for the BRCC. I also served as the medical monitor for those trials not requiring drug/device safety monitoring boards (DSMB). We hired additional staff (data coordinators, computer scientist, research assistants) as we received contracts for coordinating multi-center trials. Our clients included Abbott Laboratories, NIH, Bayer and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. We developed the existing data capture system into a web-based application to better accommodate multi-center trials. The BRCC was comprised of 15 nurses, data coordinators, computer scientists and research assistants. In addition to directing the BRCC, I also served on the Beaumont Human Investigation Committee (i.e., IRB) and on the faculty of the cardiology fellowship program.

What they like about William Beaumont Hospital:

You give high priority to hiring firms with prestige. Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
