Daily Duties at Columbia University Catering:
• Manage $12 million annual operating budget • Oversee all day-to-day operations for departments including Columbia Catering, Lerner Hall Conference Services, and other campus venues including Low Library and outdoor spaces • Supervise 55 + employees including two different groups of unionized staff • Strategize, plan and execute major campus events such as World Leaders Forum, featuring high-profile guests and complex programming, university Commencement, and live broadcast events including the McCain/Obama election forum and the Bill Gates/Warren Buffet town hall • Develop and implement a “one-stop-shopping” model to support the entire range of event management needs of the university community, New York City event planners and a range of external clients • Solicit and measure customer satisfaction by analyzing key performance metrics that help identify areas for improvement or new program development • Review, revise and implement policies and procedures related to event management including coordination and collaboration across the entire university • Managed the grand re-opening of The Faculty House in August 2009; created new service standards; designed new food and beverage programs including a new graduate student café; established policies and procedures to meet and/or exceed compliance with all city, state and federal health and safety requirements; and help establish new customer bases • Supervised entire day-to-day operations of Columbia Catering • Developed and managed sales and strategic marketing for all food and beverage activities • Supervised the transition of traditional campus facility from an outsourced operation to a self-operated business • Managed overall operations in day-to-day sales, operations, and financial accountability • Created and executed marketing plan that identified prospects for internal and external business opportunities • Created and implemented new menu concepts for fine dining and catering • Developed and maintained comprehensive and uniquely priced wine list • Built and maintained relationships with staff, faculty, students, and alumni to grow the Club membership ranks
