Daily Duties at Scotts Miracle Gro:
Key Responsibilities are but are not limited to the following: • Research and compile project information, author technical reports (Technical Brief and Front End Loading documents) outlining: technical scope, equipment recommendations, system and equipment performance/design rates, critical assumptions, technical risks, labor implications, high level cost estimates, first-pass system layouts, long lead equipment deliveries and value engineering. • Member of multiple project teams with responsibility for final performance of the project. • Proactively seek the most cost effective solutions balancing the use of new and used equipment, existing and new technologies and hand labor versus automation. Investigate, test and validate new technology equipment. • Develop consensus agreement amongst the Project Teams, RQT and Engineering Leadership, Operations Leadership and Plant Operations. • Assess the technical capabilities of and provide technical support to contract manufacturers employed to deliver Snacks Business Unit Projects. Plans and directs activities concerned with design and development of protective packaging containers: Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special-handling and safety requirements, and type of materials required for container. Find the careers that match your Personality Type Consults with establishment's purchasing and production departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging. Develops or directs development of sketches, specifications, samples, and written analyses of proposed packaging in order to present design for approval. May confer with customers or sales representatives to draw up contracts. May advise employer or customers on efficient packing procedures, innovations in packaging materials, and utilization of sealing and fastening devices. All of these processes went through stage and gate processes. In these stages I was responsible for working with project management and marketing to help build the business case by provding conversion costs for manufacturing, purchasing costs for packaging, and resources required to develop the products. If it made financial sense at that point it would pass gate 2 and move to development at which point I could spend money on further development and trials. I was also responsible for writing a brief that highlighted the packaging requirements and all resources required for my managers approval and then the senior vice president of research and developments approval with the svp of marketing. As I was moving throughout development I was responsible for identifying scope creeps and presenting them to my manager to push back on the marketing team. Upon completion I would write a summary of the work done and it would be signed by myself as well as the other cross functional groups to show the actual resources required at completion.
