Daily Duties at Walton County Public Works:

As Deputy Director of Public Works for Walton County Board of County Commissioners my work involved short and long range planning for all of the County’s transportation issues as they relate to comprehensive land planning and land development. I was responsible for implementation and management of the Walton County Dirt to Pave Program, Long Term Capital Improvement Program, and working with local, state, and federal agencies as they relate to transportation issues within Walton County. As Deputy Director of Public Works I was in charge of the day to day scheduling of the Clearing Crew, Drainage Crew, Bridge Crew, Paving Crew, Paint/Striping Crew, and District Maintenance Crews. I also reviewed proposed FDOT reconstruction projects in Walton County and made comments and recommendations on proposed changes and modifications to the projects. I was also the liaison between Walton County and FDOT in regard to Construction, Maintenance, Safety, and Traffic Operations within Walton County. As a member of the Okaloosa-Walton TPO technical coordinating committee I provided comments and recommendations on District 3 projects within the panhandle, chaired the OWTPO Bicycle Pedestrian Committee and developed working relationships with other local municipalities. I also provided plans review which included membership on the technical review committee, engineering review and evaluation of developer submitted site plans and stormwater calculations, verification for compliance with the land development code, verification for compliance with the comprehensive plan, and attendance at the Walton County Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioner meetings. I have served with Walton County Emergency Management Division in deploying to Central Florida during the 2004 Hurricane Season and coordinated the recovery effort in Walton County. I provided numerous Vulnerability Assessments in conjunction with this division. I possess the knowledge and understand the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of civil engineering as they relate to roadway drawings and plans review/preparation, project scheduling, project management, construction management, contract preparations and negotiations. I have demonstrated the ability to organize and coordinate multiple work assignments and possess the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
