Daily Duties at University Of Tennessee:

Conducted full-time lab research on the significance of UBE3A regulated proteins to the treatment of autism. Tasks included the study of genes related to autism and autism spectrum disorders such as fragile X, Rett (RTT) and Angelman Syndrome (AS). Utilized Drosophila specific genetic techniques to generate artificially high levels of normal and mutant fly ube3a proteins in fly heads. Identified targets by 2 D gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry (proteomics) and validated them through genetic suppressor/enhancer screens, immunoprecipitation binding assays in cell culture, and immunohistochemistry in the brains of the appropriate mouse models.
