Daily Duties at Enterprise Rent A Car:
When I arrived in the Northwest region of the United Kingdom, the business in its infancy, was struggling to grow. The only growth it was experiencing came from the opening of locations. Employees who were promised to be given profit related bonus money where discourage and disgruntle. The middle management team was angry that an outsider took a position that they felt was due to them. They sequentially used their leadership skills and influence those employees to resist change. Leaving me with two main challenges – 1) Earn the respect of an existing management team and sales force; 2) Teach 4 Area Managers to teach 15 Branch Manager how to effectively grow 15 separate business whilst creating a one team environment. Within 3 months and using a technique of weekly accountability one Area Manager resigned and one I had to let go. I immediately replaced one Area Manager with a current Branch Manager within the operations and personally managed the vacant area while maintaining my current role obligations. I used the same tactics as used when taking over the Area Manager role on the central coast, except I did not open any new branches for the first 12 months. Within the next 3 months the area I was overseeing started to produce consistent profitability and after 6 months of joining the operations I earned the respect of all the employees. • I personally met with all the main business leaders within the 15 communities we had locations. After building relationships I quickly introduced the Area and Branch Managers to their relative business leaders. The immediate benefit our organization experienced was growth. • I studied and understood the local market place and all potential competitors. I then assisted the local branches and building a customer pricing systems within the different markets the business served – Retail, Replacement and Weekend customer. • Created a competitive team environment among all the employees inspiring a sales culture using ethical practices, which not only improved moral but helped to grow our repeat customer base. • Set up a training program and taught employees how to ask for the sale • Created a team of sales people to target the growth of our corporate clients. Within 18 months we grew the business to produce revenues over $40 million with a staff of 75 employees and customer base of over 1500 business who consistently referred us business on a monthly basis. We were the company's 1st European operation to sustain consistent profitability. After teaching, training and developing the middle management team to grow and manage multiple businesses, I felt we had the employee and customer base to expand our presences within the Northwest and went on to aggressively open 9 more locations in the next 4 years. I researched and identified each of the 9 locations determining market perception, customer base, lease factors and physical location to name of few of the key criteria used. I managed the cost associated with building out each location and ensure maximum efficiency were in place. After completing each project I assisted the Area Managers in recruiting the staff. All locations were producing positive cash flow within their first year of operations.
