Daily Duties at Conoco Phillips:

In the summer of 2010 I worked for ConocoPhillips in Houston, Texas. I was a reservoir engineering intern. I examined three different fault blocks and determined how much gas was left. I determined how much gas was in each of the three main sands within those fault blocks. In order to accomplish all of this I had to learn how to use several programs. I had to learn how to use OFM, RTA, and Wellview. Wellview is a program that is a database for well information. OFM contains production data for different wells and uses decline curve analysis to estimate the final recovery of each well. RTA uses production data and flowing pressures to estimate the original gas and oil in place for a well. Using OFM, I was able to obtain production data that I needed to compare with the numbers I calculated at work. RTA analysis allowed me to determine the original gas in place that each well would be able to drain based on estimated drainage areas of each well. This helped me in determining new well locations based on finding locations that were not already drained. I worked with the geologist at the end of the summer to find new well locations for two out of three of the fault blocks I examined. The main criteria I used for finding new well locations was whether or not the primary producing sand was present in the proposed location. I became very good with excel, as I used it to do many of the calculations for reserves and reservoir parameter statistics.
