Monitor sales activities to ensure that customers receive satisfactory service and quality goods. Assign employees to specific duties. Inventory stock and reorder when inventory drops to a specified level. keep records of purchases, sales, and requisitions. Enforce safety, health, and security rules. Hire train, and evaluate personnel in sales or marketing establishments, promoting or firing workers when appropriate. Perform work activities of subordinates, such as cleaning and organizing shelves and displays and selling merchandise.

Market reputation and prestige of a firm may be determined through on-line research, and conversations with individuals working in your target industry. Note that firms "in the public eye" receive a great deal more critical publicity and attention than those operating with more anonymity. So as you assess your employment opportunities, be sure to seek out the positive aspects of the firm's reputation in addition to noting negative publicity the company may have received.
