Supervised by Research Scientists: Dr. Jerry Pratt and Dr. Peter Neuhaus I am working on the improving the Electrical Design of the biped walking robot M2V2. Walking Algorithms tested on M2V2 will be applied on Robonaunt2 (NASA’s humanoid robot). I am working on applying EtherCAT bus to communicate between computer and various motor driver modules while ensuring maximum speed, least possible wires and robustness of protocol. This involves making small motor driver modules (that can be embedded in the limbs of humanoid robot) which can drive a brushless DC motor, interface two Encoders for Position / Force, estimate velocity, closed loop current and force control and have flexible interface using EtherCAT, USB, SSI, LVDS and CAN. EtherCAT is a high speed (100Mbps) bus protocol for automation applications which require short data update times.
